Controls Engineer – HVAC Systems

BSS is currently recruiting a Controls Engineer on behalf of a leading mechanical and building services contractor operating across Ireland.

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically qualified engineer with HVAC controls experience to join a growing team delivering commissioning, maintenance and technical support for critical HVAC and cooling systems across commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical and data centre projects.

Responsibilities

  • Commission, maintain and troubleshoot HVAC control systems.

  • Provide technical support for controls-related service and maintenance activities.

  • Attend callouts and fault-finding investigations when required.

  • Complete commissioning records, service reports and technical documentation.

  • Ensure all works are completed in accordance with company and client procedures.

  • Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes.

  • Identify energy-saving and system optimisation opportunities.

  • Liaise with project managers regarding recommended remedial and upgrade works.

  • Interpret electrical schematics, control drawings and sequences of operation.

  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety and quality requirements.

Requirements

  • Electrical trade qualification with HVAC industry experience.

  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems including AHUs, control panels, PLCs, VSDs and motor control circuits.

  • Experience commissioning and fault-finding HVAC control systems.

  • Knowledge of Modbus, BACnet and HVAC communication protocols.

  • Experience with EC fan technology and associated controls desirable.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and control schematics.

  • Safe Pass and Manual Handling certification.

  • Full clean driving licence.

  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Desirable Experience

  • Building Management Systems (BMS).

  • Critical environment, pharmaceutical, industrial or data centre projects.

  • Fan wall applications and advanced HVAC control strategies.

  • Energy optimisation and performance monitoring systems.
