Site Manager – 110kV GIS Substation (Civil & Build)

About the Role

BSS is recruiting a Site Manager on behalf of a leading civil engineering and construction contractor delivering the civil and building package for a new 110kV GIS substation in Central Dublin.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Site Manager to lead the construction of the GIS portal building and associated works on a high-profile electrical infrastructure project. The successful candidate will oversee the project from foundations through to completion, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all day-to-day site operations on the civil and build package.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, direct labour and site resources.
  • Deliver the GIS portal building, including:
    • Reinforced concrete works
    • Structural steel frame
    • Cladding installation
    • Internal fit-out
    • Drainage works
    • External works and hard landscaping
  • Ensure works are completed safely, on programme and within specification.
  • Liaise with the client, design team and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate site records and reporting.
  • Drive quality control and ensure compliance with all Health & Safety requirements.
  • Manage site logistics and coordinate deliveries and site activities.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Site Manager on large civil engineering or building projects.
  • Strong background delivering projects from groundworks and foundations through to completion.
  • Experience managing structural steel frame and cladding packages is highly desirable.
  • Excellent knowledge of reinforced concrete construction and external works.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage subcontractors and maintain programme targets.
  • Valid Safe Pass and relevant site management certifications.
  • Experience on utility, energy or infrastructure projects would be advantageous.

A well-established residential main contractor is seeking an experienced Site Manager for a housing development in County Laois with over 12 months of work remaining.

The successful candidate will have strong residential construction experience with particular knowledge of groundworks, infrastructure, drainage, and coordination of early-stage site activities, while also managing the project through to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily site operations on a busy residential development
  • Coordinate subcontractors, labour, and site logistics
  • Oversee groundworks, drainage, roads, and external works packages
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, and to specification
  • Liaise with project management, design teams, and client representatives
  • Maintain high standards of health & safety and quality control
  • Monitor programme progress and resolve site issues proactively
  • Ensure all site records and reporting are maintained correctly

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in a Site Manager role
  • Strong residential construction background essential
  • Proven experience managing groundworks and infrastructure packages
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to drive programme and manage subcontractors effectively
  • Trade or construction-related qualification preferred
  • Valid Safe Pass and relevant site certifications required

Role brief

  • Take full control of site operations – labour, subcontractors, logistics and sequencing
  • Deliver project to programme and budget
  • Drive quality and safety as non-negotiables
  • Identify problems early and push solutions back to the commercial and technical teams
  • Maintain site records that stand up to audits
  • Report to Project Manager

Experience required

  • 5+ years in site management on Irish Residential construction projects
  • Track record of delivering work properly
  • Strong grasp of Irish construction standards, safety and compliance
  • Comfortable running multiple workstreams
  • Decisive, organised, and not afraid of confrontation when standards slip
  • Can communicate clearly with QS, PM, design teams and subcontractors
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and MS Project
