Setting Out Engineer / Engineering Surveyor – Rail

Location: Dublin & Hybrid

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Setting Out Engineer / Engineering Surveyor to join an established engineering contractor delivering rail and infrastructure projects across Ireland. The successful candidate will provide accurate setting out, surveying and monitoring services and will work closely with project, engineering and construction teams.

The Role

This is a full-time role working on rail projects in Ireland. The position will involve site-based surveying, setting out, control, monitoring, topographical and as-built surveys, together with preparation and processing of survey data. Rail experience is required for this appointment.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out setting out, engineering surveys, topographical surveys, monitoring and as-built surveys on rail projects.
• Establish, maintain and verify survey control networks and site reference systems.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and BIM information and translate these into accurate on-site setting out.
• Use modern surveying equipment including total stations, robotic total stations, GNSS/GPS, precise levels and scanners.
• Process survey data and prepare drawings, reports, records and as-built information.
• Work closely with project managers, engineers, design teams and site personnel to resolve technical and surveying issues.
• Ensure survey information and records are accurate, traceable and issued in a timely manner.
• Operate in accordance with project safety, quality and environmental procedures, including rail-specific safe systems of work.

Requirements

• Previous engineering surveying / setting out experience on rail projects is essential.
• Strong technical capability in setting out, control, topographical, monitoring and as-built surveying.
• Competent with modern survey instruments and associated survey software.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and BIM models.
• Good understanding of rail environments, standards, safety requirements and working procedures.
• Relevant qualification in Surveying, Engineering Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong attention to detail, data accuracy and quality control.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Full driving licence and flexibility to work across project locations in Ireland.
• Relevant rail safety certification / track access certification would be advantageous.

Whats on Offer

• Salary in the region of €50,000 – €65,000 depending on experience.
