Civil Project Engineer

BSS are currently recruiting a Civil Project Engineer on behalf of a leading Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Contractor. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer to join a growing organisation delivering utilities, power infrastructure, public realm, and civil engineering projects throughout Ireland.

The successful candidate will support the Project Manager in the planning, coordination, and delivery of projects, ensuring works are completed safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The role will involve close collaboration with site teams, clients, subcontractors, consultants, and commercial staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of civil engineering, utilities, and infrastructure projects from commencement through to completion.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure project requirements are understood and implemented.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining project programmes using Microsoft Project.
  • Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to the Project Manager and client representatives.
  • Identify programme risks, delays, and potential issues and assist in implementing mitigation measures.
  • Support cost monitoring activities and highlight any budget variances or commercial concerns.
  • Assist in identifying and recording project variations and additional works.
  • Prepare and maintain project records, reports, and contractual documentation.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to site teams and subcontractors.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of RAMS, HSEQ documentation, and permit systems.
  • Carry out site inspections and quality checks to ensure compliance with specifications and industry standards.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, local authorities, and utility providers to resolve technical and coordination issues.
  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3+ years experience in civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure, power, or construction projects.
  • Experience in site engineering, project engineering, or project coordination roles.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering construction methods and project delivery.
  • Experience working with utilities, power infrastructure, roads, or public sector projects desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively within a project team.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Safe Pass and relevant site certifications advantageous.

An excellent opportunity has now arisen for a  Civil Engineer with experience in Electrical Infrastructure to join an Established Civil Engineering & Utilities Contractor. This is an office based role with attendance on site required as needed. 

The Civil Engineer plays a key role for our client in supporting and coordinating civil and electrical works on-site. With a focus on safety, efficiency, and adherence to technical standards, this role assists in ensuring successful project execution within budget and programme requirements.

Responsibilities
• Review electrical project designs, drawings, and specifications; assist in producing detailed baseline programmes using Microsoft Project.
• Monitor and track project schedules; provide progress updates and technical reports to the Project Manager and client.
• Support in identifying risks, delays, and critical path activities; assist in preparing extension of time claims where required.
• Review and monitor project costs against budgets; flag any variances and propose corrective measures.
• Assist in identifying scope variations and provide input for negotiating additional costs with the client.
• Prepare and issue required project documentation and records in line with contractual obligations. • Provide technical support to site teams including Site Agents, Supervisors, and QS staff.
• Support the preparation and review of Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS), electrical safety procedures, and other HSEQ documentation.
• Carry out inspections and assist with site audits to ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, and electrical standards.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to resolve design and coordination issues, proposing practical solutions.
• Ensure all electrical installations comply with statutory regulations, codes of practice, and industry standards.

What you need to have 

• Proven experience as a Project Engineer in electrical engineering, utilities, or civil infrastructure projects.
• Solid technical knowledge of electrical systems (e.g., power distribution, utilities, street lighting, or infrastructure connections) with awareness of associated civil works.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Full driver’s licence.
• Background in civil engineering with electrical project delivery preferred.
