1. Construction work begins on landmark social housing project in Dublin (Source: Irish Post)
Construction work has officially begun on Blackbird Park in Cabra, north Dublin for the Focus Housing Association development, which is part of the homeless and housing charity Focus Ireland. When completed, the 2.03-hectare site, which was gifted to the charity by the Dominican Sisters, will provide homes for 95 families in need, as well as two community rooms and a public green area and children’s play space. Mayor of Dublin, Emma Blain joined Ireland’s Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne and local councillors at the sod-turning event

2. Bank of Ireland Group increases home building target to 30,000 (Source: Big News Network)
The Bank of Ireland has announced an ambitious new target to support the construction of 30,000 homes across the country, up from its current commitment of 24,000. The move signals the bank’s growing role in addressing Ireland’s ongoing housing crisis through a combination of debt and equity finance. The homes are being delivered across 220 sites in 22 counties and span a mix of housing types. Last year, the bank financed the construction of 21,000 homes, reflecting a steady increase in its housing support efforts.

Construction commenced this week in Cabra for Focus Housing Association’s housing development at Blackbird Park. The project will see 95 A2-rated social homes delivered at the 2.03-hectare site on Dominican Sisters lands off Ratoath Road. The Dominican sisters gifted the land to Focus Housing Association will be delivered in collaboration with Dublin City Council, Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage and the Housing Finance Agency.

4. Work on €44m restoration of fruit and veg market to begin next month (Source: Independent IE)
Work is officially set to begin early next month on the long-awaited redevelopment of the fruit and veg market in Dublin. Purcell Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the restoration and refurbishment of the 127-year-old redbrick building in Smithfield, closed since 2019. It is planned to transform the market hall and adjoining yards into a bustling food retail destination, with space for cafés, restaurants, food producers and public events. Dublin City Council has confirmed that construction will begin in early June.

5. Council signs €206m contract with BAM for M28 Cork to Ringaskiddy Motorway (Source: Cork Beo IE)
The construction contract is valued at €206 million, close to half the total project budget of €456 million, with work expected to begin in the coming months. BAM will be responsible for the construction of 11km of mainline motorway from the Bloomfield Interchange to Barnahely
