1. Construction to commence on Donegal ATU’s €25 million project in Letterkenny (Source: Donegal Live)

The Letterkenny project, which will cost in the region of €25 million, is one five new buildings across multiple campuses which are being delivered by Public Private Partnership. The announcement was made by Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless.

2. Ireland needs 80,000 new workers to reach housing and infrastructure targets, ESRI says (Source: The Journal IE)

IRELAND NEEDS AROUND 40,000 more people employed in the construction sector if the government wants to reach targets of 50,000 new homes a year, according to an economic forecast from the ESRI. Additionally, if the government intends to fulfil promises made in its National Development Plan (NDP), which includes building the infrastructure needed for new housing developments, another 40,000 workers would be needed.

3. Construction of long-awaited water activity centre completed with formal opening in September (Source: Irish Independent)

Construction on a long-awaited water activity centre on North Wall Quay in the Dublin Docklands has been completed by Dublin City Council (DCC), with a formal opening scheduled for September. The authority said the “Quayside Project”, as it is known, is a flagship initiative for the city, with a state-of-the-art Council Water Sports Centre and a new Docklands office as part of the development.

4. Construction underway on new Lidl store which will create up to 30 jobs in mid-Kerry (Source: Radio Kerry)

Planning permission for the new store in Killorglin was approved last year, and this development will see Lidl open it’s eighth shop in Kerry. Lidl Ireland says this new store will create up to 30 new, permanent jobs, while up to 100 construction jobs will also be supported during the development phase. Contractors NRS Group have begun construction to develop the over 1,300 (1,398) square metre sales floor area retail unit.
