- New scheme aiming to create 60,000 construction jobs (Source: Irish Post)
Taoiseach Enda Kenny today unveiled the new plan to stimulate activity in the construction industry. The scheme includes a number of new building projects nationwide worth up to €200m, while it also involves the allocation of €20m to the Pyrite Remediation Scheme. The stimulus package includes the allocation of €50m to regional and local road projects as well as providing a further €50m to increase social housing provision.

2. Construction on new €1.5m all-weather sports campus set to begin in East Galway (Source: Independent IE)
Construction is set to begin on a new all-weather sports campus in east Galway after the project secured funding. New Inn, Co Galway, will soon have a new sports facility featuring an all-weather astro pitch, tennis court, MUGA (multi-use games area) pitch and grass-based pitch as €1.5m was allocated under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund. Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with the facility aiming to open its doors in spring 2027.

3. Government approves Dublin’s MetroLink to proceed to detailed tender stage (Source: Geplus)
In a major milestone for Dublin’s MetroLink, Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien has received approval from Cabinet to move MetroLink to the detailed tender stage, where market bids will be sought and partners selected to build and operate MetroLink. Significant enabling works are to start on site from early next year, followed by heavy tunnelling and station construction. MetroLink will be the largest single project in Ireland since the construction of the Ardnacrusha hydro power plant in the 1920s.

4. Efforts to increase use of timber in Irish construction enter ‘next phase’ (Source: Agriland IE)
Work to increase the use of timber in construction in Ireland has entered the “next phase” with the first meeting of a group tasked with delivering on this government ambition taking place. The group is made up of representatives from lead government departments, state bodies and agencies responsible for delivering the seven priority recommendations from a report by the Timber in Construction Steering Group.
