  1. Luas Cork extensions ‘more than likely’ within decade (Source: Irish Examiner)

Preparations for extensions to the €2.5bn-plus Luas Cork project will “more than likely” begin in the next 10 years, before the initial phase is complete, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has said. The preferred route for the 20km light rail service was published in April. It is due to run over 27 stops from Ballincollig in the west, through the city centre, to Mahon in the east. It is  subject to a non-statutory public consultation.

2. Tánaiste turns sod on 410 home development in Bishopstown, Co. Cork (Source: Gov.ie)

Tánaiste and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris T.D., today turned the sod on a a significant new mixed-tenure residential development in Bishopstown, Cork that is being delivered with funding from Home Building Finance Ireland (HBFI). Waterfall Avenue, led by Bridgewater Construction, will provide up to 164 much-needed homes for the area. These homes are being actively delivered under phase 2 of the scheme with phase 3 set to commence in June and deliver a further 246 units.

4. Construction industry in ‘deliver, not delay’ plea to next Assembly cohort (Source: Irish News)

A year out from the next Assembly election, the umbrella group for the north’s £3 billion construction sector has set out eight key asks to unlock blockages to major infrastructure projects and address environmental decline. And it has warned that failure to act on its recommendations will exacerbate already inflated costs of living and will block much needed housing, deter international investment, and cause Northern Ireland to fall irretrievably behind competing regions.
